Design Internship - Paid



ALVA-AMCO SUMMER 2015 GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIP:
Leading U.S. producer of specialty non-prescription pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements is seeking a summer intern to assist its in-house Creative Services Dept. in the design and production of consumer packaging and promotional materials, including folding cartons, labels, pharmaceutical pamphlets, print and digital ads and coupons, POP displays, renderings for retailer presentations, brochures, and sell sheets.

Learn and take part in the process of designing packaging, digital & printed marketing materials. Incorporate new design techniques, review color separation/pre-press, and attend a press approval. Experience the collaboration & production demands of a busy creative design team, working with marketing, sales, regulatory and senior management to produce materials that will be presented to retail buyers, and eventually sold to consumers at leading retailers.

COMPENSATION: $8.25/hr paid internship
TIME FRAME: May 26, 2015 - August 21, 2015 (Dates may be slightly flexible)
HOURS: 18-24 hours/wk
OTHER REQUIREMENT: A car (or reliable form of transportation) will be needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Equivalent to Production Designer responsibilities, which include:
·         Ability to work on multiple projects quickly and take direction accurately; inputting copy & images into packaging & both digital and printed marketing materials
·         Assemble mocked cartons,
·         Create product renderings in PS
·         Route projects artwork to various departments for approvals.
·         Will have opportunity to help design designated projects.
·         Ability to adhere to tight deadlines.
·         Good communication skills to collaborate w/others frequently in an open office environment, incl. other designers, project manager and marketing execs. May communicate w/print vendors
·         Excellent time management & organization a must!
Must meet deadlines & accurately. Appropriate responsiveness & sense of urgency. Self-motivated to work independently, efficiently and complete tasks assigned.
·         May be asked to organize files or create new designs.
·         Will be trained in AccuPro Barcode software for inputting into coupons, packages, etc.

TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
PC based
CS 5.5 (AI, PS, InDesign)

OTHER SKILLS:
Typography, drawing skills, principles of design, creative thinking, photography (optional),

Camp Art! Program Leader - Skokie Park District



Camp Art! Program Leader
Pay: $10.00/hour
Qualifications:   Must be a creative and enthusiastic adult, at least 18 years of age who enjoys working with children ages  8-11 years. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).Experience leading groups of children in art related activities preferred. Prior summer camp employment experience is a plus, but not necessary.  Must possess excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills.  Experience working in different art mediums strongly desired.
Duties:  The program leader is responsible for the direct supervision and safety of the children enrolled in the Camp Art. Works cooperatively with the Camp Director in the planning and implementation of age appropriate art and non-art related activities. Responsible for assisting with camp activities and field trips.  Assists with the operation of the camp and provides a camp experience that is fun, educational, age appropriate and safe for the campers. Responsible for assisting with arts and crafts projects, games, and other activities related to weekly themes.  Prepares program supplies and props as needed.  Sets up camp activities, and responsible for leaving the camp site neat and orderly at the end of the camp day.  Duties include maintaining accurate records and reports.  Attends meetings and training as requested.  Program Leaders perform other assignments as required.
Location: Devonshire School
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. June 15, 2015 through August 7, 2015. To be considered for this position, you must be available to attend training sessions that begin during the week of Monday, June 8, 2015 along with other camp trainings.

Jr. Product Designer - Winston Brands



POSITION PURPOSE

The Jr. Product Designer conceptualizes and creates new “original” products and product page themes exclusive to our Company’s catalog(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Other Duties May Be Assigned


  • Researches market trends, trade shows, competitors, and conducts store research for product ideas that will strongly appeal to our target customers.
  • Adapts conceptualized ideas into artwork/blueprints (two-dimensional drawings, three-dimensional models and digital imagery) that vendors will use to create the actual product(s).
  • Incorporates existing aesthetic standards into ideas and product designs.
  • Communicates ideas and concepts to vendors.
  • Researches new materials and new technologies that can be incorporated into our product line.
  • Presents product and theme ideas to merchandise managers and buyers.
  • Works to brainstorm new page spread themes and exclusive new product concepts to fit within those themes.
  • Work with freelancers, and communicate with overseas offices.
  • Organize all projects and paperwork related to art projects.

  • Works under general supervision.  Position requires the exercise of some independent judgment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • This position has a direct impact on the success of the Company by developing products that delight our customers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree or pursuing a degree in fine Arts or related field; Bachelors Degree is preferred.
  • 1+ years of related art/product development experience or have successfully completed an internship in art/product development.
  • Strong cross platform MAC and PC skills.
  • Quark, Illustrator, and Photoshop experience.
  • Adobe CS4 and In Design experience.
  • Sculpting and model construction experience a plus.
  • Good illustration and rendering skills.
  • Textile design or CAD experiences a plus.
  • MS Office suite of products to include Excel, Word.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Standard office environment.  Stress may occur with tight deadlines and long hours.  Minimal travel may be required.
·         Standard physical activity such as standing, walking, and basic motor skills to access computer files for information, data entry or document creation.  Sitting for extended periods.
