Wings - Call for Entry

Call for Artists
Artists are invited to submit entries for WINGS, an exhibition of images inspired by the flight of winged creatures.

WINGS is a juried show of 2D and 3D visual artwork (excluding video).
Applications will be accepted online through EntryThingy. Artists may submit up to three (3) entries for jurying.

Exhibit dates 
January 20-February 25, 2017

Deadline for entries
November 12, 2016 

Guidelines
-  All forms of winged creatures may serve as references.
-  All sizes, media, styles, and formats (except video) will be accepted for consideration.
-  Artists may submit up to 3 works for judging.
-  Shipped work will be accepted. Artists are required to supply pre-paid return shipping labels with accepted work.
-  Photo references for creating artwork are allowed, if the photos originate from the artist.
-  Applications are to be submitted through the online site Entrythingy.com, using the code               http://www.entrythingy.com/d=tallgrassarts.org#show=3097 which is a direct link to the WINGS entry form.

Additional Information
-  Works should not have been shown at Tall Grass Gallery in the last two years.
-  Completed applications, entry fees, and jpeg images must be submitted to
            www.EntryThingy.com through this link:
-  2-dimensional work must be wired and ready to hang (no saw-tooth hangers please)
-  Curators reserve the right to refuse work that does not meet the requirements or is considered too fragile for exhibit.
-  All work remains on exhibit for the duration of the show.
-  All 2D and 3D works that require special installation procedures must be installed
            by the artists themselves.
-  Unless requested otherwise by the artist, permission is given to Tall Grass to use
            any images of exhibited work for publicity or educational purposes.   
Fees and Commission
-  A non-refundable entry fee of $25 for up to three entries must accompany the entry form at the time of submission.
-  The gallery retains a 30% commission from any sales of work during the exhibit.
            Work may be marked NFS.

Awards
-  Awards will be given for First, Second and Third Place.
-  Curators and jurors for the exhibition are Gail Otterson and Mary Bookwalter, artists, and college art professors, as well as jurors and curators for numerous exhibitions.

            Delivery of accepted entries:  January 13 & 14, 2017

Entry Forms and Artwork Labels
- All submissions must have a completed entry form and entry fee, submitted through EntryThingy.com.
- All accepted artists will be sent exhibit labels that should be attached to the backs of works before delivery.    

- Accepted artists will be asked to send current Artist's Statement, Biography and Resume for gallery use.

Paid Design Intern Wanted



STUDENT INTERN

Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE)
Marketing and Communications Division

DESIGN INTERN will report to the Creative Director and/or staff designers performing various program support and administrative duties.
Internships are limited to one, 12 month, academic year.  Students are limited to working one internship (lasting no more than one twelve month academic year) per City Department

DUTIES:
  • Assist in the design of marketing and advertising using Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), working creatively within project parameters including but not limited to: deadlines, specifications, brand guidelines.
  • Assist in the design of marketing and advertising for concerts and exhibitions at the Chicago Cultural Center, Millennium Park and other DCASE-run venues
  • Assist in the design of marketing and advertising for City festivals/events including but not limited to: Chicago Air and Water Show, Chicago Blues Festival, Chicago Gospel Music Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago SummerDance, Millennium Park Summer Music Series, and Taste of Chicago
  • Assist with designing assets for social media
  • Assist with designing assets for web and e-communications
  • Prepare design files for print/release
  • Coordinate with City print shop and contracted print vendors
  • Coordinate with DCASE staff to traffic/track design jobs, using Basecamp, Microsoft Office applications and other project management tools
  • Perform various administrative duties assigned by the design staff, including laminating, trimming, and print collateral pickup or distribution
  • Perform additional functions to support other DCASE festivals, programs, and events, including attendance at events, and routine clerical and administrative duties involving copying, scanning, document preparation, filing, correspondence, answering the telephone, mailings, tracking, event set up, and using social media to promote DCASE events and activities
  • Perform related duties as required

NOTE:            This is a temporary position.  Year-long (Fall/Winter 2016 through Spring/Summer 2017) internship, work at least 10 – 20 hours per week during the school year and full time/35 hours per week during summer/academic breaks; have a flexible work schedule.  Possible to work early mornings, weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays during festivals and special events.  Position is assigned both indoors and outdoors.

Must be willing and able to stand long periods of time and lift up to 20 lbs


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a student in good academic standing currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or law school OR a student in good academic standing currently enrolled in an accredited business or data processing/information technology school.  Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale OR at least a 3.5 on a 5.0 grading scale.  Students must maintain the required GPA throughout the duration of their employment/internship. 

Must be enrolled in school with a minimum of 6 credit hours (or quarter hour equivalency) throughout the duration of the internship, with the exception of academic breaks, i.e. summer.

Disclaimer – “Accredited” means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program.

Residency Requirement:   All paid Interns of the City of Chicago must be residents of the City for the duration of the Internship. Proof of residency will be required.

Salary: $11.00/Hour

Temporary Staff Position Details
Set-up: Monday, October 31 – Thursday, November 3 | 7:30 am – 8 pm

GREETERS : Greet guests as they enter the fair and provide directions as requested, assist student groups, manage traffic flow on show floor.  *This position requires a significant amount of time on your feet and moving through the floor.
Greeters should be personable and friendly. This position works closely with show management to ensure the smooth flow of traffic throughout the show floor and terraces on Opening Night, Thursday, Novemerb 3 and throughout the weekend suring VIP and general admission fair hours. On Friday, November 4 Greeters will assist with welcoming student groups and escorting them onto to show floor to pre-scheduled arrival events.
SOCIAL MEDIA NOTE:We ask all temporary staff to be a part of our Social Media Street Team. Staff should take a few photos as they work on the show floor to be shared with Show Management for posting on Social Media.

Graphic Design Instructor Wanted

"I work once a week at the North Suburban YMCA teaching graphic design to kids from 5th-12th grade. We are currently looking for more instructors for this. The time/day they teach would be based on their availability. The class is run using samsung tablets. We use the apps sketchbook pro, and pics art.
