ABOUT
Multiple Personalities And Social Media: The Many Faces of Me
by Megan Casserly
FORBES

"In the beginning, social media was a personal platform to market myself," says Ashley Brown. "But as the number of platforms increase, it's amazing to watch the way that we are adapting to multiple networks-and our ability to communicate and connect with different audiences through different voices online."

"What this means is that while social media has afforded us many things-FarmVille, unflappable knowledge of everyone's birthdays, countless memes-it's also given the uncanny ability for a single person to become many different people. All at the same time."

Facemask is not an exhibition about Facebook /Twitter or other social media. Rather, it is a self-protrait exhibition that evolves in the middle of a "social media" revolution. Curated by Sergio Gomez

Facemask explores the hidden personality behind our social media face. Such personality here described as our "other".

This exhibition will take place in the main gallery of the Zhou B Art Center and it is the theme of this year's 8th Annual National Self Portrait Exhibition. We are inviting artists nationwide to submit works exploring the other, not often seen, side of themselves.

The main gallery of the Zhou B. Art Center will become a national laboratory for the exploration and visual representation of the "self". The exhibition will include works ranging from representational, non-representational and conceptual ideas of the self. It will feature works in a variety of media. The Zhou B. Art Center is home to 33 Contemporary Gallery and it is located at 1029 W. 35th Street, Chicago, IL 60609.

The National Self-Portrait Exhibition has become one of our most viewed and anticipated exhibitions. Now in its 8th year, the self-portrait exhibition will focus on the "other" self. All works selected will also be part of the online exhibition. This exhibition showcases high quality works from artists from all over the United States working in a wide range of media and styles.

IMPORTANT DATES
Exhibition Dates: June 15 to August 11, 2012
Deadline for Submission: Sunday, May 27th

Internship Opportunity - Design

Shared by an Academy graduate and current intern:

Art Licensing Internship
We are a West Loop art licensing agency that represents independent artists in the apparel, home decor, gift and stationery product categories. We're currently seeking a part-time design intern who can help us create product concepts on average of 20 hours a week. This is a work-from-home internship for the most part so candidates must have the Adobe Creative Suite and the ability to work fairly independently.

If you have product design experience, the technical and creative ability to help design trend-forward patterns and product designs, and strong working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, please send us your cover letter, resume and samples of your portfolio: Olioport@yahoo.com.

Call for Artists - Dungeons and Dragons

From the D&D Website:

Dungeons & Dragons will be implementing an art test for prospective illustrators starting with the next iteration of the game. Why?
Two reasons:
  1. I am looking for art samples that can be used in the discussion about what the next iteration of D&D should look like. Having art samples that are based upon the same art orders allows us to have a apples-to-apples conversation about style, render techniques, medium, etc.
  2. I’m always looking for new artists, or want to see samples from known artists that are looking to show new visions.
Beyond those reasons, I am looking to set base expectations for the art directors when assigning work to freelance illustrators. In particular I am looking at a participant’s style, adherence to the property and consistency of quality.
Style: I am looking for a consistent style that you will be providing to represent your work. If you have multiple styles this will represent the main style that you would like to present yourself to the D&D brand with.
Adherence to the Property: This will determine how well you can follow and interpret the established looks for characters, races, monsters and locations in our style guide. D&D has a great emphasis on presenting a coherent and consistent vision of our worlds to our customers and it is essential that our illustration represent that.
Consistency: This is to check that the artist can maintain an overall level of quality over a series of pieces. Also, this is to see the artist’s comfort range when dealing with character, item, architectural, and environmental pieces so that the art director can better determine the artist’s strengths.
The Test: The art that you supply should look like it would fit in or belong with the concepts supplied. We are not expecting you to emulate the illustration style, unless your style is already similar.
