Design Director
The Evanston
Art Center’s
Design Director is responsible for providing innovative graphic design and
creative solutions to support the organization’s marketing, development and on
line interactive functions. This is a permanent part-time position with
a base work schedule of 24 hours per week, not to exceed 30 hours per week. The
agreed salary for this position is $22.00 per hour with no benefits.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide innovative design and creative solutions—from
concept to completion—for campaigns including, electronic, video, print,
display, bi-monthly e-newsletter, and social media.
Conceptualize
ideas, develop designs, present concepts, elicit “buy-in” on direction from
colleagues and produce artwork to final stages meeting deadlines and project
budget parameters.
Create
new visual branding for the Art
Center’s next facility
and innovative cross-disciplinary programming. Maintain brand standards and
guidelines. Advocate for brand consistency with mission-driven visuals &
messaging.
Work with print production and other vendors to manage costs and
production of deliverables.
Manage online jurying web sites like Slideroom, EventBrite,
and other online response sites when needed.
Help to maintain the Xerox copier/printer, arrange for
service calls when needed, keep supplies in stock, and work with service
technician during service calls.
Implement graphic design software updates when necessary.
Archive samples of printed exhibition, press, event and
other printed materials.
When possible, photograph classes, exhibition artworks,
special events and other activities for use in marketing materials and manage
the internal photo gallery to provide easy access to all photos.
Other tasks as determined by the Executive Director.
Preferred Education/Experience
BS Degree in design or related field
Minimum three years’ experience in creative/advertising/marketing
environment or equivalent work experience.
Experience and proficiency utilizing Mac hardware and
software required.
Proficiency using current software applications
including Adobe Creative Suite required.
Previous experience creating design for multiple channels,
including web and print required; video and other new media preferred.
Previous experience managing design process from concept
to deliverable required.
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of successful design
principles to embody and build brand required.
Working
knowledge of print processes from layout, prepress, paper and ink
through finish & fulfillment required.
Experience
with art production detailed file preparation for deliverables of all types to
specification require
Previous experience managing typography, hierarchy of message
and minor copy editing and proofreading required. Attention to detail is a
priority.

Center, founded in 1929, is one of the
most recognized community arts centers in the Midwest
serving over 30,000 annually. This nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization operates
with an approximate budget of $1,200,000 and receives its funding from a
variety of sources, including earned income, grants, individual contributions
and foundation support. A full-time staff of four, part-time staff of six, over
50 teaching artists, and a Board of Trustees numbering 16, and hundreds of
volunteers comprise the Art
Center’s human resources.
