In conjunction with this exhibit OPAL launches a monthly Group Critique, the first one is all about the figure.
As a benefit of membership, the Oak Park Art League offers opportunities for artists to receive group feedback on finished work or artwork in progress. Monthly critiques are open to both emerging and experienced artists and provide artists a critical forum and multiple perspectives for evaluating artwork. These informative meetings are designed to help artists of all levels:
Advance technical and conceptual skills
Develop narratives
Speak to the formal qualities of their own work and the work of others
Network and engage with other artists in the community
Meeting topics are structured to align with OPAL’s exhibition themes and begin with a short presentation by an experienced artist as a platform for group discussion. Artists are invited to bring one (thematic) work for group feedback. Artists are welcome to bring a snack to share!
January Critique: Monday, January 11th, 7:00-8:30 pm
Topic: Figure Drawing & Painting
OPAL teaching artist Kathy Hirsh will open the session with a short discussion on her transition from medical illustrator to professional artist, explaining how her work has evolved from representational, to her current loose and playful approach for drawing and painting the human figure. Kathy teaches Figure Drawing & Painting on Thursday mornings in the Oak Park Art League studio.
