Job description	We are seeking highly motivated Gallery Interpreters/Operators to provide a wide range of services related to the demonstration, use, maintenance, and care of the temporary exhibition, Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen at the Chicago Cultural Center. This exhibition features kinetic sculptures that can be self-propelled by an air compressor or physically moved by visitors. Under the direction of the Lead Interpretation Planner the successful candidates will work closely with the Visual Arts Departments. Interpreter candidates will play a key role in facilitating welcoming audience experiences in the exhibition by speaking and engaging with groups about the Strandbeests. The position encompasses constant guest interaction and engagement. Operators will also perform preventative maintenance and repairs in preparation for movement demonstrations. Both Interpreters and Operators will activate the Strandbeests during the demonstrations and assist visitors in moving the Strandbeests. Schedules will vary Sunday-Saturday and the times will also vary between 9am and 7pm.
Qualification	Candidates must be 21 years or older and process excellent customer service and problem solving skills, the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations, basic knowledge of engineering and mechanics, and the ability to work with power tools and hand tools, including an air compressor.  A strong candidate will have a friendly, personable manner, an interest in engineering and contemporary art, and a passion for working with people. Prior experience in art, education, customer service, and operating/repairing machinery preferred.  Some museum experience and a degree in related field is preferred, but not requires. Standing and ability to lift 50 lbs required. Extended hours for special programming may also apply.
