Title:
Large residential installation
My
husband and I live in a condo in downtown Chicago and are building a home in
Indiana on the lakefront of Lake Michigan. We’d love to work with an artist to
craft a unique piece for the new Indiana house that would be directly installed
onto a large wall – be it painted, sprayed, papered, textured, textile, etc –
we’re open to any medium and to working with an artist to craft an
installation.
The
house is two stories connected by an open staircase that sits underneath a
large clerestory. That staircase is the central focus of the house tying
together the upper and lower floors and bringing light into the lower floor
while being the focus of all the main public areas of the home.
The
space available for installation is at least 10’ x 10’ but has more flexibility
given the way the staircase is designed. For example, we’re open to the
piece being created on a diagonal to follow the path of the staircase as well
as rectilinear or any other shape that you’re inspired by and fits the
available wall space.
We
see the house as a place of harmony, rest, community (a place to share with
family and friends), joy and nature. The house will be a modern house of mostly
glass and natural materials such as stone and wood. The house sits on top of a
dune that runs down to the lakefront – a beautiful and private spot surrounded
by the beauty, repose and inspiration of nature.
Fee:
This will be a paid commission with the fee TBD based on discussions and
concept and paid in installments.
Timing:
The house will be complete spring 2018 but we’d like to work with an artist
this summer to develop a piece so that we can design the furniture and finishes
around the art. The fee will be paid in portions so that you will be paid for
your planning and drafting time now, with the remainder of the fee paid upon
the complete installation.
Location
for Installation: Dune Acres, Indiana. About 60 min drive east of downtown
Chicago.
Notes from AAA Career Services: Client prefers modern/abstract in style over traditional/representational, but those might be considered as well. She loves 3-dimensional texture and also something soft/durable as there will be kids interacting with the work in the home.
