Volunteer Opportunity - Great Chicago Fire Festival

Redmoon is seeking volunteers for The Great Chicago Fire Festival on Saturday, October 4, 2014 and we’d like YOU to join the volunteer team! Please see below for more information about the event and volunteer opportunities.

The Great Chicago Fire Festival

On Saturday, October 4, the inaugural Great Chicago Fire Festival will light up the city with a spectacle of fire on the Chicago River.

Highlights of the Spectacle will include fiery cauldrons lowered from the bridges, hundreds of kayakers pulling flaming buoys and prairie gardens, and three floating sculptures resembling pre-1871 homes that will be set ablaze, each revealing a dramatic, symbolic interior core. The finale will feature a fireworks display set to music and moving tribute to Chicago's neighborhoods.

That afternoon, the riverfront and Wacker Drive will host a pre-show bazaar featuring crafts, food, performances, art and entertainment from Redmoon’s neighborhood partners: A celebration of the people of Chicago.

In partnership with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District, this free event was created to unite Chicago’s neighborhoods and celebrate Chicago’s grit, greatness and renewal following the Fire of 1871.  Like Mardi Gras or the Running of the Bulls, The Great Chicago Fire Festival will become a signature event for the City of Chicago.

Volunteer Opportunities

An event of this scale would be impossible without the help of volunteers. We are looking for 500 volunteers to help with lines, crowd flow, check in, hospitality, security, running of small items from one end of the festival to the other, and providing information to spectators, guests and participants.

We have many volunteer shifts available for groups of all sizes. Most shifts will be during or close to the following times:

Saturday, October 4, 2014
8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
7 p.m. - 11 p.m.

Times of all shifts are subject to change. The shifts listed above are meant as a general guideline to understand availability. The actual time of your volunteer shift may be different than the exact times listed above.

To participate as a volunteer, please fill out this Google Form click here.

If you have any questions, please feel welcome to email volunteer@redmoon.org or call 312.850.8440.

ARC Gallery - Tshirt Contest

The “F” Word: Feminism Now
T-Shirt Contest

Informational Prospectus and Call for Designs
Submit Now!

ARC GALLERY AND EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION is a non-profit, woman-run cooperative gallery dedicated to providing alternative space exhibition opportunities for innovative artists outside the commercial gallery system. Since 1973, ARC has given exposure and support to both men and women artists, providing an atmosphere for the continued development of artistic potential and experimentation.

CONTEST!!!
In December 2014, ARC will present the juried exhibition "The ‘F’ Word: Feminism Now".  As part of the exhibition, ARC will be making T-shirts commemorating the show.  In conjunction, ARC has decided to have an open call to design the graphic of the T-shirt.

Artists and designers are being asked to create an original front image for the T-shirt.  The T-shirt must also include specific wording for the front and back of the shirt in addition to an image.  See “T-shirt Specs” for required information.

ARC has included the information from the call for work for ‘The F Word’ exhibition.  Please read in full
to understand the type of work ARC is looking for in order to create a T-shirt to compliment the show.

“As ARC was founded in the 70’s during the height of the Feminist Art Movement, we have decided to
organize a tribute to feminist exhibitions. Rather than revisit the history of Feminist Art and its early
leaders, ARC is choosing to celebrate the gallery’s feminist history by examining what else Feminist
Art is.  That is, rather than reducing feminism’s meaning to one familiar artist or era, ARC would like
to explore what feminist art was, what it has come to be, and where it is going.

In mounting this juried group exhibition, ARC’s goal is not to deride or disown dominant associations
or previous generations. Our impulse is additive and exploratory rather than denunciatory. ARC hopes
to uncover other ways feminism has been, or will be, made visible particularly in regard to the
contemporary art scene. To that end, ARC invites submissions that engage, but are not limited to,
the following topics:

-The ideals of feminism – what does feminism mean today? What does it mean to you?
-Feminist aesthetics -- what does feminism look like and sound like?
-Feminism’s history and viability in museums, galleries and other arts institutions
-The many ways feminism has been misrepresented or dismissed
-Feminism’s presence in contemporary society and why it is still needed
-Feminism’s futures
-Feminism’s racial, gender, sexual and/or reproductive politics
-Temporalities of feminism
-Feminism in popular culture / Celebrity Feminists”

Please read this Contest Call before submitting your design.
