Essential Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Creates, designs and develops in collaboration and partnership with the Design and Merchandising team, product from conception through production that delivers the true aesthetic of our brand.
  • Support the Design team throughout the development and production of creative projects, to help the team develop the best work possible.

  • Create original artwork - painting, drawing, hand-lettering and digital illustration and typographic treatments, to be applied to the design development of proprietary stationery, greeting cards, wedding invitations, rubber stamps, stickers, calendars, and gift wrap & bags, textiles and hard goods.
  • Present product concepts, at various working stages of development, for review and direction, first from the Design Art Director and GMM, in preparation for and prior to all product line reviews.
  • Manage the development of these products, maintaining provided schedules.
  • Design all PS product packaging and labeling, with any necessary instruction sheets, die lines, and templates, keeping consistent with design standards.
  • Keep current with trends in Design, stationery, home goods, fashion and related industries, taking time quarterly to participate in inspiration outings with team.
  • Participate in seasonal Inspiration/Trend Meetings with team, presenting examples of inspiration and trend for discussion, review and relevance to brand. Prepare inspiration summary to present to Buying team.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or Illustration.
  • Ability to draw, paint and create realistic interpretations, and create patterns in repeat. Desired background in fine art, painting, drawing or sculpture.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, with knowledge of various paper printing processes.
  • Knowledge of prepress process to prepare files for print, and build final files for output.
  • The motivation to maintain and improve design standards.

Winsor Newton - Marker Workshop Artist Wanted

The Fine Art Collective is a worldwide network of like-minded individuals, passionate about art materials.  With the support of Winsor & Newton, The Fine Art Collective runs technical workshops for art students all over the world, in partnership with universities, colleges and arts organizations.  Delivered by practicing artists with a passion for materials, the workshops take an in-depth look at the production of artist colours, the variety of materials available today and techniques for using them.

Our Biennial is one of the Midwest's largest and most prestigious juried exhibitions, offering artists an opportunity to have their work viewed by three talented curators; Lela HershPresident of Museum and Fine Arts Consultingand Lecturer in the Graduate Department of Arts Administration and Policy at School of the Art Institute of ChicagoMonique MelocheOwner, Monique Meloche Gallery and Lorelei Stewart, Director, Gallery 400 at University of Illinois at Chicago. Our Biennial will be promoted and viewed by hundreds of visitors, including gallerists, curators and collectors.
All mediums accepted. A non-refundable entry fee is required from each artist. The fee must accompany your online form or CD submission. A complete entry includes: completed entry form, labeled CD, and fee. Make checks payable to the Evanston Art Center.

AWARDS

ELIGIBILITY
The 23rd Evanston + Vicinity Biennial is open to artists 18 years of age and older living in Illinois. All work must be original and completed within the last two years.

ACCEPTANCE
Notification of acceptance will be emailed by June 10. A valid email address is required.

CONDITIONS
The Evanston Art Center (EAC) reserves he right to refuse any work which differs from the submitted images. All accepted entries will be considered temporary loans to the EAC. The EAC will assume insurance responsibility for the object upon receipt and inspection, and during the exhibition. The EAC is not liable for any claim for loss, theft or damage of any kind during transportation. The EAC will exercise the usual care in handling and will provide insurance coverage subject to EAC policy guidelines. It cannot be responsible for minor wear resulting from normal handling.

Delivery of accepted work
The artist is responsible for door-to-door delivery/shipment of work. Delivery of accepted work will take place from July 5-10.
July 5-7, Mon-Thurs, 10am-9pm
July 8-10, Fri-Sun, 10am-9pm

Presentation
All selected work must be delivered in its final state ready for installation or hanging. Framed pieces larger than 24”x30” must be covered in Plexiglas. No dimension of any work may exceed seven feet. No weight may exceed 150 pounds. Any special handling instructions must accompany the piece in writing. Artists will assume reasonable risk for damage for all unframed work and any other unconventional display preferences. Each entry must be clearly identified, where possible, on the bottom or back with artist’s name and title of work. The EAC reserves the right to reject previously accepted works due to inadequate framing/mounting or for security/public safety reasons.

SALES
Works will be for sale unless noted as NFS (not for sale) on the entry form. The EAC will retain a 30% commission on all sales from the exhibition. Payments to artists will be made after the closing of the exhibition.

Return of Accepted Work
The exhibition closes Sunday, August 28 at 4pm. All works not picked up will be placed in storage at the artist’s risk and expense and will be charged a $5.00/day storage fee beginning Monday, September 19. The EAC is not responsible for work left over 30 days beyond the close of the exhibition.

Position Summary

The Junior Graphic Designer and Illustrator position is responsible for contribution to the concept, design and illustration of new gift wrap, greeting card and stationery products. This can include calendars, rubber stamps and other paper related items that fundamentally have the Paper Source aesthetic and results in salable designs for our store, catalog and web businesses. Additionally production work on layouts, templates and product packaging. The position works closely with the Design team, Design Art Director, Product Buyers and GMM, as well as, the CEO of the company.

Superhero Drawing Instructor - Highland Park

Drawing Teaching Artist- Highland Park (Contractual)

Seeking a Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking Teaching artist to facilitate a Superhero Drawing class during after-school time. Students participating in the program are junior high and high school grade levels in Highland Park. Workshops will focus on a self-portraiture and discussing the concept of super-heroes. This should ignite conversation and the exploration of comic book characters that conform with the protagonist and antagonist of a story plot. Students will be knowledgeable of the terms plot, hero and villain before the teaching artists arrives. Students will tell a story through their artwork in which they are the protagonist and what super powers they wished they had that would intercede and make the situation better. Teaching Artist will facilitate 3 sessions for one classroom at each school, see schedule as follows:
HIGHLAND PARK HIGH SCHOOL:
Self Portraiture: Me as a Super Hero! (Medium: contee crayon on drawing paper)
Thurs. April 14, 21, and 28,
3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Day 1: (1.5 hrs): Get to know students, ice breakers, talk about leadership and doing the right thing when situations present themselves show images of artists who have done self portraits on the theme of super heroes, explain the drawing techniques and start with self portraits
Day 2: (1.5 hrs): Continue working on the self-portraits
Day 3: (1.5 hrs): Finalize artwork, small critique
NORTHWOOD JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL:
Hero Zines! (Medium: Markers, pencil, paint on paper)
Tues. April 12, 19 & 26.

Art Camp Director - Skokie Park District



Position:  Camp Art! Director and Instructor
Pay:  $15 - $17/hour dependent on experience/qualifications
Location:   Devonshire School, 9040 Kostner Avenue, Skokie, IL, 60076

Qualifications
Must have a strong art background and be an energetic, responsible adult at least 21 years of age. Minimum of two years’ experience working with children preferred, but not required.  Teaching degree in Art Education, Elementary Education or a related field preferred, but not required.  Must have strong presentation, communication, organizational and leadership/supervisory skills and be comfortable working with children.

Duties
Camp Art! is an art themed summer day camp for children in grades 3 through 6 that are aged 8 to 11 years old.  The Camp Art! Director is responsible for the direct supervision of approximately 20 – 25 campers enrolled in the camp and the supervision of two camp program leaders.  Duties include  planning, implementing, instructing  and  monitoring  daily camp activities.  The Director provides an age appropriate, safe and orderly camp environment that meets the needs of the camp participants and their families.  Responsible for following safety procedures and camp guidelines to ensure the safety of all campers and assigned staff.   Communicates with parents on a daily basis in a professional and friendly manner and informs parents of any problems or concerns that occurred during the camp day.  Plans and instructs daily art activities and projects utilizing a variety of mediums and materials that may include watercolors, acrylics, clay and other materials.  Creates indoor and outdoor activities that focus on multimedia and three dimensional works.  With the assistance of program leaders, leads campers in outdoor activities, games and sports.  Plans and leads two family nights that showcase session 1 and session 2 of the summer camp.  In conjunction with the Camp Supervisor, plans field trips, swim trips, and welcomes guest artists that have scheduled visits to the camp.  Duties also include assisting the Camp Supervisor with training staff,  and preparation of weekly schedules and newsletters.  Maintains all camp supplies and equipment and sets up and puts away camp supplies and equipment daily.  The Director is responsible for ensuring that the camp site is left neat and orderly on a daily basis.  Conducts weekly staff meetings, evaluates staff members and maintains accurate camper attendance, records and reports.  Attends training and other meetings as requested.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Monday, June 13, 2016 through Friday, August 5, 2016, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
No camp on Monday, July 4, 2016.
Please note:  Candidates must be available to attend camp specific staff training to be held the week of Monday, June 6th   through Friday, June 10th. In addition, candidates must also be available to attend a director training evening session in May (date to be announced) as well as the All-Camp Staff Meeting on Saturday, June 11th from 9:30 am – 1 p.m.  Special schedule accommodations may be considered if communicated during the interview process.

Gallery Interns Wanted



HAM is a new Art Space in the West Loop’s Meatpacking District.

Intern duties will include both assistance with clerical gallery procedures and events as well as research, development, and implementation of multiple self-initiated projects.

The primary role of the intern will be to help staff at HAM maintain the daily operations of the gallery. This includes engaging with visitors to the gallery, facilitating art sales, cleaning, and minor/routine maintenance. The intern may also be involved in maintaining inventory records and management systems, updating and producing content for social media, and installing exhibitions. I

Interns will be expected to staff the gallery for approximately 12-18 hours per week (at least 20 hours during the summer) potentially including 4 hours on Saturdays.

In addition to clerical duties, interns will be expected to work on a number of projects during their internship that are developed in conjunction with the gallery manager. These projects are expected to be in line with the interests of the intern as well as those of HAM. Projects should result in a deliverable that can directly contribute to the needs of HAM  while also benefiting the personal development of the intern.
